SaaS Localization a Hot Topic
Rubric's spring Birds of a Feather breakfast draws a SaaS focused crowd
Edinburgh, Silicon Valley — April 22, 2009 — SaaS is a hot topic in Silicon Valley, as proven by Rubric's recent Birds of a Feather breakfast.
"We always get great audience questions at our breakfast events," said Ian Henderson, CEO of Rubric. "This time something more powerful was happening. It seems all of Silicon Valley is investigating SaaS and needs to know how to manage localizing SaaS applications."
Henderson co-presented with Scott Fisher of SuccessFactors, a Rubric client and a SaaS vendor serving more than four million users. Together Henderson and Fisher explained how SaaS makes localization much more complex than with traditional software.
"Like all SaaS applications, SuccessFactors software is live every moment of every day, making upgrades a real-time event," said Henderson. "More important is the frequency of updates. SuccessFactors has a new release every month and a tiny, one-week window for performing localizations on each release. This creates challenges that packaged software vendors do not face."
That short localization period is one of the many reasons SuccessFactors chose Rubric for language services. Rubric's ability to scale localization resources on demand, and their ability to design custom tools to automate client project work, has helped keep SuccessFactors' releases on schedule.
"More and more software companies are moving to SaaS, and Rubric is ready for them," said Henderson. "Few localization vendors can scale as instantly as Rubric. In the Internet age, on-demand scaling is a requirement, not a luxury."
