Rubric to Present at Society for Technical Communication International SIG

Monday, October 20, 2003

Rubric is pleased to announce that it will be giving a presentation about effective localization project management at the upcoming STC-Boston International SIG meeting to be held in Lexington, Massachusetts on October 27, 2003. Rubric's presentation "Localization Project Management: The Client-Vendor Partnership" will examine project management from two complementary vantage points: the client of localization services as well as the localization solutions provider.

The session will be educational in nature and will have a highly interactive atmosphere, engaging attendees to share their stories, experiences and ideas. Several project scenarios will be provided, with an opportunity for collaborative problem solving by the entire group. Questions posed will include:

  • Why is it that if you need to talk with your vendor everyday your project is doomed for failure?
  • Why is it that scalability can be best achieved with fewer people?
  • Why is it that adding tasks to a localization schedule can actually reduce time-to-market?

With effective project management, a vendor can tackle massive volumes with small teams within tight deadlines. However, projects are a two-way street. A client can help a vendor to help the client. In fact, poor project management at the client side can be just as devastating as on the vendor side. This presentation will aim to define the critical ingredients in making any joint localization effort successful.

Marie-Anne De Warren, manager of the STC-Boston International SIG, states, "We are thrilled to have Rubric presenting about effective localization project management and look forward to a very lively discussion."

Who can benefit from this presentation?

  • Writers and Translators
  • Managers of Technical Publications
  • Localization and Translation Vendors
  • Translation Project Managers

The presentation will be given by Tom Shapiro, VP of Strategic Business Development at Rubric. Shapiro has more than 8 years experience in the localization industry and has been involved in a multitude of highly complex projects.

The meeting will be held at the Sheraton Lexington Inn in Lexington, Massachusetts. More information about the event can be found at http://www.stc-boston.org/sigs/internat.shtml.
