RUBRIC STRENGTHENS PREVENTATIVE TESTING COMPONENT OF ITS STREAMLINER™ METHODOLOGY

New Rubric L10ninspector™ 3.5 Enhances up-front testing of localization project files

Wednesday, September 5, 2001

Rubric, a leading localization services provider to Information Technology (IT) companies, announced that it has strengthened its Streamliner™ localization methodology with the deployment of Rubric L10nInspector™ 3.5. Rubric implements the upgraded version of the internationalization testing tool up-front in the software localization process.

The new version 3.5 of Rubric L10nInspector™ solidifies the tool's preventative testing capabilities on a wide range of software file formats. One example of this is the tool's enhanced capabilities in checking for concatenation problems, as well as for display issues caused by the addition of apostrophes and quotation marks in UI strings. Another example is the tool's ability to identify the source file from which each UI string originates in the case of a dynamically generated screen.

Rubric's Streamliner™ localization methodology adheres to a preventative approach to localization - proactively identifying issues in the source files and solving problems as early in the process as possible. The methodology includes an entire suite of preventative measures to ensure that file set analyses are accurate and that the localization process is efficient, reliable and scalable. Rubric L10nInspector™ plays an important role in verifying the localization-readiness of a product prior to localization, thus enabling Rubric's customers to avoid the potentially time-consuming and costly efforts involved in rework late in a project.

Rubric L10nInspector™ detects various internationalization problems. The tool first pseudo-translates the product files. The pseudo-translation can be implemented in single-byte or double-byte mode, depending on the target languages to be tested. The pseudo-translation maps to the appropriate character set of the target language and can be configured to expand to different lengths to simulate text expansion caused by translation.
