Rubric integrates upgraded Rubric UI Wizard™ into its localization services

Friday, July 28, 2000

Rubric, a leading localization services provider to Information Technology (IT) companies, announced that it has upgraded its Rubric UI Wizard™ localization tool, which is integrated into the company's UNIX, Windows and Mac software localization services. The upgrade includes the addition of a CCJK preparation component, a Mac translation expediter, and enhancements in preprocessing non-standard file formats. The upgraded technology is used as a standard component in Rubric's localization process.

Rubric UI Wizard™ expedites the localization of software files by preprocessing files for translators, enabling WYSIWYG editing of resource files without the complete build environment, maintaining code integrity, and identifying hot-key conflicts, out-of-order variables, undersized elements and version control issues. It also integrates seamlessly with standard translation memory (TM) solutions, such as TRADOS Translator's Workbench/MultiTerm.

The CCJK preparation component within Rubric UI Wizard™ prevents hot-key clashes in CCJK-language software files. In .rc files it replaces the code page, and in HTML files it replaces the <META> tag information with the relevant encoding for each target-language. For both types of files the tool also replaces the relevant font information for the individual target-language. The benefits to the software publisher include the prevention of potential technical problems in UI files, reduction of time spent on testing, and faster overall UI localization turnaround.

The Mac translation expediter ensures consistency of UI strings between Mac and other platforms, thus streamlining multi-platform releases. The technology integrates with AppleGlot, and supports the synching of a hierarchy of multiple glossaries while allowing for confirmation by a human translator or editor.

Advancements in Rubric UI Wizard's capabilities to analyze and preprocess non-standard files have also been introduced. The technology semi-automates the preprocessing of non-standard file formats, simplifying the localization process and reducing localization time-to-market.
